About Sporting Schools

Sporting Schools is an Australian Government initiative that provides funding to over 5,700 school sports programs. The program aims to engage more than 850,000 children across Australia in what is the country’s largest school-based participation program.

As part of Sporting Schools, Basketball is a great way to introduce fundamental movement skills to students, for them to learn about the game and have fun!

Schools have the ability to source accredited coaches to deliver their Basketball programs or to have programs led by their teachers using Basketball Australia resources and equipment. The curriculum and equipment stay in the school after the program has finished to support students in staying healthy and active through sport.

The Sporting Schools Basketball program has some excellent benefits:

  • Schools have provided feedback that the program is fun, inclusive and the students love it.
  • It provides an environment where children of all abilities can achieve on the court – and reap the rewards of fundamental skill development, enhanced self-esteem, social cooperation and have a fun engaging time on the basketball court
  • Nationally accredited coaches can deliver basketball programs at your school with programs being ran before, during or after school
  • This can be the first step into Basketball Australia's introductory program - Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops.
